Why Endocrine Disruptors Are So Dangerous?

We live in a world where chemicals are everywhere – in the water, the air and the food we eat, also in the products that we use on a daily basis like cosmetics, food containers and other plastics, household cleaning products, etc. But how all these substances which are unknown to the body actually affect its own fine balance, and especially the hormonal balance while the hormones are also types of chemicals produced by the endocrine system in order to regulate different processes in the body. Even extremely small amounts of a certain chemical can affect the endocrine system in a negative way, compromising the overall health.

Which are the most common endocrine disruptors?

The plastic containers and bottles are made of a different material, so some of these might contain phthalates, BPA and other chemicals which act as xenoestrogens and toxins when reaching your cells. You are exposed to them if you use a lot of plastic containers and a plastic wrap for your food, if you heat your food in such containers it can make things even worse, if you eat a lot of canned food, etc. The surprising thing is that the receipts from the supermarket or the bank terminals contain these, vinyl floor and mats too.

Triclosan is a substance found in everyday products like toothpastes, soaps, detergents and toys. It is used for its antifungal and antibacterial properties but can cause altering in the hormonal regulation. Pesticides are a huge group of substances which are found in the water and the food, for example, atrazine which is forbidden in the EU, is still used in the US and is known to cause estrogen imbalance in animals, increasing the female reproductive hormones on the expense of the male hormones like testosterone.

The cosmetics is another huge part of the problem with endocrine disruptors while women use many times more cosmetics than men. Usually the ingredients list of your daily moisturiser is so long that it is hard to understand what types of chemicals are actually entering your body through the skin. Some of these ingredients like parabens, sulfates, triclosan, toluene, etc. which act as endocrine disruptors are found in sunscreens, shower gels, lotions and many other products. Medications and some supplements can contain a lot of additives which may affect your hormonal balance. On the other hand, healing methods like cold laser therapy is safe, non-invasive and do not include taking chemical substances on a daily basis.

Household cleaning products can be found in almost every house, from bleach to washing detergents, most of them contain very aggressive chemicals which can cause poisoning or allergies. These active ingredients are potentially very harmful for your body and even inhaling them or touching them with bare hands can cause some health issues in the long term.

How do endocrine disruptors affect your hormonal balance?

  • They can bind to some essential hormones
  • They might imitate certain hormones
  • Increasing the production of some hormones
  • Decreasing the production of some hormones
  • Interfering with the hormones signals
  • Can cause the death of some cells
  • Might accumulate in the organs
  • Can cause the conversion of some hormones into others

What can you do to avoid endocrine disruptors?

In order to limit your exposure to endocrine disruptors, you need to revise the use of plastics in your life. There are types of plastics though which are endocrine disruptors free like tritan, for example. Check your food and water containers and replace them with metal, glass or with safe plastics. Never use plastic wrap to keep your food in the refrigerator. Think about replacing your bottled water with filtered one, and if your water source has atrazine in it, look for a filter which is specifically made to remove it from your water.

Try to use less mass cosmetics and prefer products which are free from parabens, artificial fragrances and phthalates. Eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, change to a clean and a balanced diet in order to support your body. Avoid processed or canned or junk food. Choose safe household cleaning products without aggressive ingredients or if you still use such, put gloves and do not inhale them. Support your hormonal balance with your lifestyle changes and with cold laser therapy. It is a safe way to keep your hormones in balance without the use of invasive medications. Low level lasers like coMra will help you detoxify and support your liver – the main organ responsible for the elimination of excess hormones and toxins from the body. Find out more on how to use coMra on your liver and to treat other diseases. As a totally safe and non-invasive method of healing, cold laser therapy is a good alternative to aggressive medications and invasive procedures.
