Case Study: Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis with coMra Therapy

Patient Information

  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 47 years old
  • Diagnosis: Ulcerative Colitis (1990)
  • Initially proctosigmoiditis
  • Progressed to pancolitis (2014)

Initial Symptoms

  1. Severe abdominal pain and cramps during relapses (8-10/10 pain scale)
  2. 12-14 diarrhea stools per day during relapses
  3. 3-4 relapses per year
  4. Blood and mucus in stool (during relapses and when >8 stools/day)
  5. Fatigue and weight loss during relapses

Treatment Protocol

  • Device: coMra Delta 980 (home user version)
  • Initial treatment: Twice daily for 20 days
  • Subsequent treatments: Reduced and modified in cooperation with therapists

Additional Therapies

  • Pharmacotherapy: Anti-inflammatories (oral and rectal)
  • Before coMra: 5-6 pills daily + suppositories
  • After coMra: 2 pills daily, no suppositories

Results

Fecal Calprotectin Test

  • Sept 2013: 312 (positive for UC)
  • Sept 2015: Borderline
  • Feb 2016 to present: Negative for UC

Conclusion

This case study demonstrates significant improvement in ulcerative colitis symptoms and overall quality of life using coMra therapy. The patient experienced a reduction in pain, normalized bowel movements, elimination of relapses, and decreased medication use. The fecal calprotectin test results support the clinical improvements observed.
